Over the next few weeks, our recognized Greek sororities and fraternities will be recruiting new members.
I encourage you to participate in that recruitment process and consider the many associated groups that are active on campus. While they adhere to the overall mission and goals of WVU, each offers unique characteristics that may make one a better fit for you.
Whether it is a social fraternity or sorority, a professional or academic fraternity or sorority, or a historically-black service fraternity or sorority – each group is dedicated to the same ideals and ultimately making WVU a stronger and better place to be.
Membership in a Greek organization can be very rewarding and allows students to become even more connected to WVU. Our community fosters leadership, achieves academic success, gives back to the community, creates strong bonds of sisterhood and brotherhood, and promotes a diverse and inclusive community.
Carefully consider your experience and make the choice that is right for you. For specific information about joining and activities related to recruitment, please follow @WVUFraternities, @WVUPanhellenic and @NPHCWVU as well as @WVUGreekLife on Twitter.
As you participate in the process, I encourage you to make good choices about alcohol and other substances usage. Hazing, whether involving alcohol or not, is never acceptable for Greek organizations or any group of students. If you believe that you or someone you know is being hazed at any time, please report it (you may do so anonymously) to the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life at 304-293-8201. You can also contact the Office of Student Conduct at wvustudentconduct@mail.wvu.edu or 304-293-8111. Learn more about hazing and its dangers at the WVU safety website. We want you to be safe and support each other.
The WVU Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life staff, led by Dr. Matthew Richardson, is available to provide information and assist you in any way possible. Their office is in the Mountainlair; stop by to learn more about Greek life at WVU. And as always, I am happy to answer your questions and help you.
You can learn more about Greek life at WVU at greeklife.wvu.edu.
Sincerely,
G. Corey Farris
